The Home City Federal website utilizes industry approved security technology to protect the Bank and our Customers. Our website is hosted by an experienced third party vendor and no customer information is stored there or needed to view the contents of our website. They utilize routers and firewalls to protect our site. Online Internet Banking that is accessed through a link on our website is hosted by our core provider. It features a VeriSign issued Digital ID, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol for date encryption and a router and firewall to regulate the traffic in and out of the server.
Secure Data Transfer
When a server session is established on an HTTPS connection, a communications protocol for secure communication over a secure network, the server and the user are operating in a secure environment. Because the server has been certified as a 128-bit secure server by VeriSign, data traveling between our customer and the server is encrypted with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. Data traveling between our customer and the bank within the SSL protocol is encrypted and can only be decrypted with the public and private key pair. What this means is the bank’s server issues a public key to the end user’s browser and creates a temporary private key. These two keys are the only combination possible for that session. Once the session is completed, the keys expire and the whole process is started over when a new end user initiates a new server session.
Router and Firewall
The router, a piece of hardware, works in conjunction with the firewall, a piece of software, to block and direct traffic coming into the server. This structure is designed to disallow ALL traffic and then opens a window only when necessary to process acceptable data requests, such as retrieving web pages or sending customer request to the bank.
